Dale City Volunteer Fire Station
Brinjac provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, lighting, fire alarm, fire alerting and telecommunication design services for the new 17,500 SF fire station. The fire station is a two-story facility with first floor apparatus bay, ready gear, commercial kitchen and administrative areas and second floor bunk rooms and locker areas. Mechanical system design for the station included a new roof-top air handling unit with DX cooling and hydronic heating to serve the administrative, kitchen, bunk and locker areas while the ready gear area utilizes an energy recovery unit. The building’s heating hot water system is of variable flow type which includes high efficiency condensing type boilers. Plumbing system design included a new municipal water supply for the station and use of low-flow type or waterless type fixtures. A compressed air system was provided for use in the apparatus bay. The fire protection and fire alarm designs for the station included a complete coverage fire sprinkler system and fire alarm system. The electrical power system design included a new medium voltage electrical service as well as an emergency generator. The telecommunication system design included a new voice/data infrastructure throughout the station as well as a fire alerting system. This project received LEED Gold Certification.
