Chiller Replacement
BRINJAC ENGINEERING, Inc. (BRINJAC) provided engineering design services to replace (2) 1960's vintage 500 ton steam absorption chillers located in the basement of the Engineering Science Building. The project included evaluating the feasibility of replacing the existing machines with (2) new double-effect, high pressure steam absorption machines, or replacing the absorption machines with electric driven chillers. The evaluation of two other possible locations for the machines was also included.

Proper unit sizing based on anticipated needs in both the Engineering Science and Agricultural Research Buildings was critical. The other parameters governing the process were the physical constraints of the basement location, construction/demolition costs of each potential site and the impact on the campus utilities.

Based upon BRINJAC's findings,
WVU decided to replaced the existing units with high pressure steam absorption machines. BRINJAC prepared the design documents for the installation and oversaw the delivery and installation of the units.
