Brinjac was retained by Wiconisco Township
to provide engineering renovation of the existing
grid powered lagoon WWTP and will replace all
existing aerators with a new solar powered
aerators : SolarBee SB10000 V18 units as
shown. Installation completed March 2009. At
present, four of the existing eight aerators
are shut down or removed. The purpose of this
work is to reduce the carbon footprint of the
WWTP. Underloaded conditions at the WWTP
ensured the success of this alternative aeration
scheme.
The existing 0.125 MGD aerated facultative lagoon municipal wastewater treatment plant was powered by eight(8) surface aerators which consume on average $19,000 per year in electricity. These aerators are more than 12 years old and are no longer manufactured, two had recently failed and all were in need of maintenance and future replacement. Brinjac Engineering recommended upgrade to an innovate technology using the SolarBee solar powered aeration/mixing units. The aerators produce a more conventional facultative environment for wastewater lagoons. Use of the aerators is expected to generate saving of more than $15-19,000 per year and will also result in large reductions of the sludge in the lagoons and elimination of algae. Payback is less than 3 years with the $84,000 grant from Growing Greener.
