Brinjac provided operations consulting services to the Washington Township Authority. The Authority owns and operates a 50,000 GPD constructed wetland treatment process consisting of aerated facultative lagoons, free water and subsurface flow wetland cells and is the largest constructed wetland municipal treatment system in Pennsylvania. Brinjac has been providing operations services since 2000 when the Authority turned to us to resolve on-going problems with odors, sludge on the lagoons, effluent violations and other problems. The Authority received a Pennsylvania Clean Water grant through local legislators and the State Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for more than $450,000 for redesign and upgrade of the facility.
Furthermore, Brinjac Engineering was able to obtain two additional grants: One of only four(4) Growing Greener Grants for Innovative Wastewater Treatment Plant Technology in 2006 totaling $168,000 and in 2007 a $100,000 grant from the County Environmental Initiative Growing Greener Grant monies for Dauphin County for installation of wetlands and improvements to the Wiconisco Creek watershed. The facility is achieving BNR removal averaging about 10-12 mg/L TN and less than 2-3 mg/L TP effluent concentrations which is a reduction from TN effluent concentrations before renovations of more than 25 mg/L TN and 3-4 mg/L TP.
