Pennsylvania Capitol Senate Chamber
The automatic sprinkler system was constructed using brazed copper and stainless steel piping and was concealed in the 28-inch deep coffers at the ceiling. The sprinklers were concealed within the details of the Chamber. Installation of the brazed copper and stainless steel piping within the coffers was extremely time consuming and required approximately one month to pipe the 26 sprinklers protecting 4,900 square foot Chamber. To add to an already difficult task, supplemental ventilation in the coffers was necessary during the brazing operations to maintain tenable conditions.

The new fire alarm system provided voice communication and ADA compliant visual signaling as well as a new air sampling smoke detection system. The combination speaker strobe units were blended into the bases of the columns around the perimeter of the chamber while the air sampling tubing was installed within the coffers with the sprinkler piping at the ceiling. This allowed for extremely sensitive smoke detection without visually impacting the space.
