Pennsylvania Capitol Senate Chamber
The Pennsylvania Department of General Services (DGS) completed this project as part of the comprehensive fire and life safety improvements project for the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building. The scope of work for the Senate Chamber included the installation of an automatic sprinkler system, a fire alarm system, and upgrades to the existing electrical systems.

The fire and safety improvements to the Chamber were completed during a 9½-week recess in the Senate calendar from mid June through August. Completing the work of project and the associated finish restoration within the allotted time required aggressive scheduling, exacting coordination and the following labor and time saving approaches:
  • Protection of all marble surfaces, the carpeting, the murals and the floor mounted light standards
  • Dust containment and minimizing construction methods
  • A scaffolding system that provided efficient access to the work surfaces
