Bellefonte Avenue – Lock Haven

Lock Haven City has undergone a massive redevelopment of their historic district with the Main Street streetscape project as well as Vesper Street and Grove Streets both of which were designed by Brinjac Engineering.  Bellefonte Avenue , which is a major entry road to the historic center city as well as a very active commercial/retail road, was the obvious choice to be the first street outside of the historic district to be revitalized.

The design team currently faces several challenges.  Including:

  • Designing the streetscape to visually connect to the historic district without confusing the boundaries of the district.
  • Meeting a tight construction budget for a long streetscape.
  • Making the area easier to navigate in a vehicle.
  • Creating a more pedestrian friendly walkway to draw people in and out of the historic district for shopping.
  • Reduce or mediate the numerous pedestrian vehicular conflict zones
