Brinjac Engineering Provides Design for New Parkland Elementary School
Allentown, PA -- The new 80,000 SF Fred J. Jaindl Elementary School opened to students this fall, with the dedication ceremony held on Sunday, October 3, 2010. Brinjac Engineering, as part of USA Architects team, provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, telecommunications and security design. The school holds approximately 600 students in grades K-5. The building houses 36 classrooms, an art room, an office suite, support spaces, a multipurpose room, a cafeteria, and a library.
LEED Silver Certification will be sought for the project. LEEDŽ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. Brinjac provided design for a ground source geothermal heat pump system for year-round heating and cooling. The geothermal heat pump uses the heat storage capacity of the earth to extract heat from the ground and efficiently heat the building in winter. During the warmer months, the system will operate in reverse to remove heat from the building and store it in the earth.
