Brinjac Engineering Receives Award
for Binns Park Urban Lighting Project

For Immediate Release

Harrisburg, PA -- The renovated Lancaster Square Binns Park project was recently honored with a Regional Award of Merit by the International Illumination Design Awards program. Designed by Brinjac Engineering, this urban park lighting project was recognized for its safety, security and aesthetically pleasing design.

Located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the Binns Park project involved several difficult lighting design considerations, including the concept of lighting a park without any protruding fixtures. Considering this challenge, the lighting design team worked together with the Landscape Architect, Derck and Edson Associates, to create a comfortable, well-lit enjoyable environment, satisfying the project's performance criteria.

The project required highlighting various architectural and landscape elements of the park, such as the fountain, flag and donor wall; stage events; adequate illumination for walkways; as well as perimeter and under bench security lighting.

Visual simplicity and ease of maintenance were key issues for the project's lighting design team. Through the elimination of pole mounted fixtures, concealing light sources within trellises and stage roof members and utilizing internal hexagonal louvers, a desired level of visual comfort was achieved. Locating lighting fixtures to be accessible without ladders and specifying identical hardware fixtures offers easy lighting maintenance for the park as well.
