Brinjac to Provide Telecom Services for Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital / Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute For Immediate Release
Chris Archer, Brinjac’s Telecom Group project liaison, says the firm will implement technology innovations that will increase the hospital’s return on investment. One such technology is the implementation of air-blown fiber optic cable. An air-blown fiber segment consists of an empty tube cable which serves as a flexible conduit for the fiber that will eventually be blown through it via pressurized air. The tube cable can have multiple cells which are used to support Multi-Mode and/or Single Mode fiber of various strand counts. This is important because hospitals experience significant adds, moves and changes to their cable infrastructure. If the hospital needs to add more fiber along the previously installed routes/tube cables there is no need to re-open ceilings to install j-hooks/ pull cables because the fiber is air-blown through the empty cells. There is also no need to roll out costly negative air pressure enclosures. Antiquated/defective fiber can be removed the same way. The labor time and cost is significantly reduced when compared to the installation of conventional fiber optic cable. The use of air blown fiber also increases patient safety because ceiling tiles are not lifted which limits the possibility of the proliferation of infectious diseases. According to Archer this is a win-win solution for hospitals. “Hospitals are environments where technology is crucial to customer care, customer satisfaction and business efficiency, “says Archer. “Brinjac understands these goals and we find it exciting to engineer leading edge technology in various types of systems to meet these standards.” Providing innovative engineering solutions since 1955, Brinjac Engineering, Inc. is a full service, multi-disciplinary firm with locations in Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Allentown, and Williamsport, PA, Hunt Valley, MD, Albany, NY and Washington, DC.
