"We are honored to support an association that is dedicated to maintaining, protecting and promoting the quality of educational facilities," John M. Brinjac, P.E., the firm's President, said. "It's also a privilege to lend our engineering expertise to ERAPPA members and conference participants by taking part in several education sessions." The firm's presenters included James Seibert, telecommunications team leader; Robert Bagnull, telecommunications engineer; Robert H. Weidner, Engineering Manager, Mechanical QA/QC; and Shawn D. Good, chief lighting engineer. Speaking on "Technology in the Classroom," Seibert and Bagnull explained the various communication systems currently available for the classroom and how to apply such systems to create a dynamic learning environment. "Lighting the Way-Lighting Master Plan," a session presented by Good, covered the main objectives of a campus lighting master plan including safety, security, aesthetics, integration of hardware with both hardscape and softscape, maintenance, lamps, pedestrian travel and implementation. Bob Weidner focused on "Engineering Cost-Effective "Sustainable" Laboratories", which provided guidelines for designing "green" heat recovery facilities which can result in two-thirds utility cost reductions when compared to conventional laboratory facility design. Held September 29, in Hershey, PA, the event was attended by college and university facilities and operations representatives from across the Northeastern United States and Eastern Provinces of Canada. With 1,177 members integrated in eleven chapters, ERAPPA assists higher education facilities officers to develop, maintain and promote high standards and professional ideals for the management of physical facilities.
