"Energy use at water and wastewater treatment facilities greatly affects operations costs," Mr. Zeller of Brinjac Engineering, said. "Wasteful energy use and inefficient operations are costly and can be potentially harmful to the environment. Through ongoing studies and engineering analyses, we are able to provide association members with cost effective solutions that can reduce operating costs and enhance effluent and water quality." The seminar will review energy studies that Brinjac Engineering is currently providing to clients under the existing state grant program called P2E2. Overseen by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Office of Pollution Prevention and Compliance Assistance, P2E2 is defined as the pollution prevention and energy efficiency program. This grant program, as administered through the state office, is available to all Pennsylvania NPDES permit holders including municipal wastewater and water treatment plants and industries. The firm's energy studies are designed to evaluate major energy-using systems at water or wastewater facilities and industries, providing engineering analyses of cost saving opportunities. These studies also examine the process side and chemical use aspects of the facility to determine opportunities for reducing the amounts of chemicals used or the amount of a pollution load the facility generates. In addition, Mr. Zeller will provide an overview of the P2E2 studies, which the firm has completed for clients, and will summarize the opportunities that can be found at wastewater and water treatment facilities. Generally, each study performed by the firm has shown first year savings of more than twice the cost of the study. Unique as a member-supported, non-profit, non-government organization, the Pennsylvania Rural Water Association has established and maintains a reputation for integrity and technical excellence by providing leadership in the operation, maintenance, and management of systems responsible for providing safe drinking water and wastewater management - community, industrial, or commercially operated. The annual conference will be held March 25-27. Named one of the top 30 firms in the United States by Building Design & Construction Magazine, Brinjac Engineering provides a variety of engineering services across the state through its fully staffed offices in Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley.
