Green Building

As a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Brinjac Engineering has long recognized the value of green design and has helped many clients reduce operating costs through these design practices.

Green building practices offer an opportunity to create environmentally sound and resource efficient buildings by using an integrated approach to design. Green buildings promote resource conservation, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation features; consider environmental impacts and waste minimization; create a healthy and comfortable environment; reduce operation and maintenance costs; and address issues such as historical preservation, access to public transformation, and other community infrastructure systems.

The entire life-cycle of the building and its components is considered, as well as the economic and environmental impact and performance.

Commissioning

Brinjac is highly experienced in the commissioning and design of institutional, industrial, and commercial facilities; performing our first independent commissioning contract in 1992. We perform multi-disciplinary commissioning services for a wide range of buildings including criminal detention, educational, historic, local government, health care, and commercial facilities. We have performed commissioning services for numerous projects pursuing LEED certification.

Brinjac's analytical and diagnostic skills are highly regarded and we have often been called upon to trouble shoot and implement corrective actions on problematic facilities, many such projects being contracted as "retro-commissioning". These same skills are integral to our commissioning services for new construction projects and result in building systems that either function properly or identify the limitations of systems.

Our attention to training is well received by owning and operating personnel; we are devoted to assuring that instructions are meaningful and documentation is of value. We employ post occupancy input from building users and operators to insure that commissioned systems performances are sustainable.

We have been contracted to perform commissioning services commencing at all possible phases of projects, from being retained at the earliest stages of design to being retained after construction has been completed and the building occupied.

Infrastructure

Rising utility costs and tighter operating budgets have caused greater attention and emphasis on the proper planning, design and operations of facility mechanical and electrical infrastructures. The success of a facility can be directly linked to its ability to operate efficiently and reliably, as well as meet the needs of the operating organization both in the present and future.
