Milton Hershey School
Town Center Lighting Design
This private school recently underwent an extensive construction project to centralize the campus so that all facilities could be brought together within walking distance. This project, known as the Town Center, included a new high school, a new middle school, a new learning resource center, a new visual arts building, a new performance gymnasium, a new clock tower and renovations to an existing building for performing arts.

BRINJAC ENGINEERING, Inc. (BRINJAC) provided lighting design for the Town Hall exterior, and the interiors of the performance gymnasium and the visual arts building. The intention of the design was to create a comfortable yet safe environment with conservative lighting levels that would match the rural landscape of this community.

Most of the buildings for the Town Center are arranged in a circular pattern and their close proximity allows them to be connected by a covered walkway. BRINJAC's design focused on each of the buildings having a lantern like effect for lighting the nearby pedestrian areas. The covered walkway lies adjacent to the buildings and is broken by canopies at the entrances to the buildings that are uplighted with color consistent metal halide sources. Supplemental low wattage compact fluorescent downlights on the underside of the covered walkway assist the lighting scheme but seem to go unnoticed in the visual experience.
